About the event
Drawing on more than thirty years of experience confronting racism and organised extremism, Nick examines the social, political, and cultural conditions that allow far-right movements to take hold, as well as the strategies that have successfully pushed back against them. The conversation will explore what works, what does not, and why community-based organising, credible narratives, and long-term engagement matter more than ever.
The discussion will consider where responsibility lies with institutions, media, political leadership, and civil society, and what practical lessons can be drawn for the present moment.
Nick Lowles is a journalist and anti-fascist campaigner who has spent a lifetime fighting racism, fascism, and extremism in Britain. He is the founder of HOPE not hate, established in 2004 in response to the rise of the British National Party, and previously worked with the anti-fascist magazine Searchlight.
